Result and general impression …
Our Homematic HM-Sec-RHS Window Rotary Handle Sensor evaluation shows how you can easily protect yourself, for example, from being locked out by your own roller shutter on the patio door.
Thanks to the mechanical window handle or door handle query, the Homematic radio window rotary handle sensor provides even more information than a conventional optical or magnetic window contact, as the Window Rotary Handle Sensor itself detects a closed window with an open handle, or detects that the door handle of the patio door is open despite the door being closed, and transmits this information in AES encrypted form by radio to the Homematic CCU2 or Homematic CCU3 control centre.
However, there were also a few points in the practical test that we did not like so much: The battery cover can come off quickly, the small 10 mm holes did not fit our door handle and the notches on the square prevented direct mounting. Fortunately, these are not problems that could not be solved with a little craftsmanship, but at least in our example, a little preparation was still necessary for the assembly. Furthermore, the position of the rotary handle sensor was not always transmitted correctly at first. In the Homematic Window Rotary Handle Sensor Teaching Tutorial, we show which settings can be used to eliminate these problems.
All in all, the eQ-3 Homematic Window Rotary Handle Sensor Sensor does what it is supposed to by mechanically detecting open, tilted or closed windows and doors: If programmed carefully, for example, it prevents roller shutters from locking you out of the house. With the Window Rotary Handle Sensor you can even detect a window that has been accidentally closed. In theory, it would even be conceivable to query the rotary knob on the toilet door to light up a WC busy signal, but this would only be a small suggestion for a possible handicraft project.
