Result and general impression …
The Steinel CAM light L 600 lamp with integrated surveillance camera is excellently processed and you can notice the many years of experience in the lamp sector almost in every screw and the well-designed mounting plate. Here there was only criticism in the low angle of tilt and lateral movement, which could be solved better. Also, the installation is done quickly if you follow all the instructions and the app on iOS or Android allows a convenient query of the camera. We also like the possibility of a stand-alone setup without Internet and the local storage on an encrypted MicroSD card as well as the enormously economical power consumption.
However, we still had mixed feelings during our tests of the Steinel CAM light, because on the one hand, the quite inexpensive camera is really excellently manufactured, as you would expect from other Steinel products. On the other hand, there were still quite a few small bugs in the Android app and the iOS app at the time of testing, which do not shed a good light on the otherwise high quality of the light. And since Steinel has prevented external query options, e.g. via rtsp stream, it is now also no longer possible to use other apps to retrieve the camera stream.
Certainly, Steinel can and will continue to work on the app and we do not want to overestimate the small application errors. Perhaps Steinel will also integrate one or the other wish from our wish list of functions. However, an additional option for external querying of the camera in another app, retrieval on the PC or integration of the camera in a NAS or smarthome – in short, the flexible application option – is the top priority and we would like to appeal to Steinel once again to reopen the port with secure query. The community will certainly thank you for it as well.
